Meet our Founder and CEO,
Jennifer Levin Carter MD, MPH, MBA

In 2008, I founded one of the first Precision Medicine companies, N-of-One. My passion for cancer drug development and diagnostics, combined with my experiences supporting friends and family battling cancer, inspired me to create a company dedicated to helping patients like you.

We started with a personalized, hands-on approach, driven by the many inspiring stories of patients we helped. This commitment led us to become global leaders in Molecular Oncology Decision Support, with the N-of-One Solution supporting treatment strategies for hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide.

Our journey with N-of-One taught us invaluable lessons, leading me to start a clinical trials company. Through these experiences, I founded Medzown. We've built a strong network of thought leaders in precision medicine, and we're dedicated to solving the challenges of getting patients like you the right diagnosis and treatments at the right time and place.. Our mission is to help you find the right treatment for your specific disease.

Patients are at the heart of everything we do.

  • I am a 51-year-old male diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM) The question I faced was what treatment would be next. My experience as a patient is that the world of clinical trials is almost impossible to navigate.

The information is out there, but with no medical training or experience interpreting the various information and resources online, I felt helpless and totally at the mercy of the doctors on my team. Although my doctors are excellent, it became clear to me that even they are only aware of some of the best options.

After meeting Dr. Carter and the Medzown team, I immediately knew I was in good hands. First, the team was incredibly kind and empathetic in every interaction without fail. Even though we didn't know one another for very long, their care for me felt authentic without ever being overbearing. Second, it was clear from the beginning that they had the expertise to help.

After several in-depth conversations, the team returned with an initial list of possible options that already felt on target and gave me a huge relief that I had a skilled team in my corner. After further refinement, they gave me a final list of recommendations tailored to my needs. Ultimately, they turned an extremely complex, almost insurmountable world into a very digestible set of information I could discuss with my oncologist. It felt like I had been given the power to manage my future in a very uncertain situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Medzown is a team of clinicians and scientists who help find treatment strategies for cancer, rare diseases, or complex diseases. We will be with you every step of the way to navigate the healthcare system and advocate on your behalf.

  • We begin by gathering information specific to you and providing you with a treatment strategy report. This includes a prioritized list of clinical trials based on your data. We work with you and your doctor to help you make the best decision for you. If you are interested in any of the options, your dedicated Medzown Navigator will help you access that treatment as appropriate.

  • Medzown services are covered by the benefits offered to you and your dependents by your health plan and/or employer. You will not be charged for services, even if you haven’t met your deductible.

  • Medzown typically provides you with a full report of your treatment strategy within a week of completing your intake process with your Navigator.

  • Medzown will customize your strategy based on your individual data. That can mean prioritizing treatments based on your past treatment, type, and stage of your illness, data about the genes or other tests that may cause or be a result of your illness, personal preferences, and family needs. For example, if a clinical trial for cancer patients tests a drug that targets a specific mutation that is sometimes seen in tumors, and you have that mutation, a particular trial of a drug that targets that mutation may be prioritized. By making sure that you are matched to clinical trials as specifically as possible, our goal is to help you and your doctors have information on treatment strategies prioritized for you.

  • Medzown was born out of the need to help patients like you. Our goal is to help you throughout the process and work with you to find the best treatments for your disease, including helping you enroll in a clinical trial that may be an excellent option for you. Our dedicated Navigators are trained to work with you, your doctor, and the clinical trial team and will be side-by-side with you every step of the way.

  • A Navigator is like a guide who helps you through the healthcare system. They can help you understand your treatment options, schedule appointments, and answer questions about your care. They're there to make sure you get the support you need and help you navigate any challenges you might face.

  • If you give us permission, we will gladly discuss treatment strategies with your doctor or care team. We will also include you in that call and help you with any follow-up needs.

  • No. We do not provide medical treatment. Medzown offers expertise in researching and analyzing information to help personalize each individual’s care. You and your care team will decide on a treatment strategy.

  • No. We are independent and unbiased. While we work closely with leading cancer centers and companies, we do not have a vested interest in any research program or product.

Medzown does not provide medical care nor promote any third-party product or service.

  • Enrolling in a clinical trial is entirely up to you. This is voluntary. Medzown treatment strategies may include both treatments that are already available and those in clinical trials.

  • Absolutely! Your navigator will ask you to sign a form allowing us to share your health information with anyone on your care team or with a caretaker, family member, or friend.

  • Clinical trials are how new drugs and technologies are tested and evaluated for safety and effectiveness. Data from clinical trials are submitted to the FDA, which has to approve a treatment before it can come to market. Many patients do not know about clinical trials, how to figure out eligibility, or how to evaluate the risks and benefits. A patient’s physician may not have the time or resources to evaluate and select an appropriate clinical trial.

  • Clinical trials are designed with safety in mind. Before any trial starts, researchers carefully review and plan the study to make sure it's as safe as possible. They follow strict rules and regulations to protect the people in the trial. Additionally, participants are closely monitored throughout the trial to ensure their safety.

  • Enrolling in a clinical trial is entirely up to you. This is voluntary.

  • No. We will work with your care team to provide updated scientific and medical information relevant to your disease. We can also assist in bringing cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic options to busy practitioners, allowing them to access information and make highly informed treatment decisions.

  • You should not have to pay to participate in a clinical trial. The researchers usually cover the costs of the trial itself, including the treatments being tested and any medical tests or visits related to the trial. Your insurance will continue to cover your care outside of the trial. Medzown will work with you and the clinical trial team to minimize any expense to you.

  • Depending on the study, a clinical trial can last from a few weeks to several years.

  • You can leave a clinical trial before it is over. Your decision to leave will not affect your regular medical care. However, it is important to let the researchers know that you are leaving and to follow their instructions to end your participation safely. They may want to do some final tests or check-ups before you stop participating.

  • During a clinical trial, you may be asked to make certain lifestyle changes, depending on the study and the treatment being tested. These changes could include things like:

    • Following a specific diet

    • Exercising regularly

    • Avoiding certain medications or supplements

    • Keeping track of your symptoms or health measurements

    • Attending regular check-ups or appointments

It's important to follow any instructions the researchers give to ensure the trial results are accurate and to help keep you safe.

  • If you're in a clinical trial, you'll follow the instructions given by the doctors running the trial. They'll let you know if you need to stop or change any medications you're currently taking. It's important to follow their advice to ensure the trial results are accurate and to keep you safe.

  • A placebo simulates treatment but doesn't actually have any medicine in it. In some studies, people might receive a placebo instead of the trial medicine to see if the trial medicine works better. It's like a sugar pill that looks like the real thing but doesn't do anything.

Medzown generally does not include clinical trials that include a placebo in your treatment strategy; however, sometimes, this type of trial may be what’s needed for you. For example, if the trial offers the only possibility of getting access to a new medication that targets your specific disease. In addition, modern trial designs may have ways to switch who is receiving a placebo over the course of the trial or to minimize the amount of time that one person receives a placebo. Medzown will be available to discuss the details, and you and your care team will make the decision on participation.

  • Clinical trials can be located in hospitals, clinics, or research centers. They are sometimes also done in universities, outpatient medical facilities, or private doctors' offices. It depends on the study and where the researchers are based.

  • Enrolling in a clinical trial is entirely up to you. This is voluntary. Should you choose to leave a clinical trial, there will not be a penalty.

  • Your Navigator is available to talk with you. Please reach out today through email at navigators@medzown.com or call us at 561-203-9306.
